The Westchester Jewish Coalition for Immigration brings together immigration activists in the Westchester Jewish community to meet one another, share experiences, exchange resources, information and contacts and look for ways to support each other’s work and influence immigration policy on a national level. Even while most of us are working with non-sectarian organizations work that deserves to be applauded and supported, the WJCI brings together Jewish leaders to strengthen the ties within the Jewish community, and at the same time establish an ongoing communication and action network. We are advocates with a common value system.
To educate and involve the Jewish and wider Westchester community on issues around immigration.
To support refugee resettlement in Westchester; collaborate in the work of congregations and direct service organizations locally; provide support for local immigrant communities and organizations, such as providing best practices, recruiting volunteers for those organizations providing direct service for immigrant communities, fundraising to establish a fund to offer financial relief for immigrants such as bail and legal fees, etc.
To develop a network that can mobilize the Jewish community around specific projects and advocacy issues, as needed, such as to advocate for laws, policies and programs that lead to justice and opportunity for all immigrant groups (Immigrants, Refugees, Asylees and Undocumented Neighbors).
To join in solidarity/coalitions on advocacy, legislative, and policy actions with other organizations within and beyond the Jewish community.
To support pro-immigrant elected officials and candidates for election.
To promote a pro-immigrant atmosphere, with projects such as community signage (pro
immigrant signs throughout the community); letters to the editor, circulate toolkits, materials, fact cards, etc.
